Recently, the Munster Rotary Club held their annual luncheon to honor the members of the Munster Police Department.
That afternoon, K-9 Officer Alex Reillo was honored as the 2021 Officer of the Year. Officer Reillo, who serves with K-9 Vader, was chosen as the recipient based upon his proactive work in drug interdiction in Munster and on the highway as well as his continued involvement in community policing events.
In addition, four officers were honored with Lifesaving Awards for their actions during calls for service in 2021. They included Sergeant Ryan Vassar, Officer Omar Padilla, K-9 Officer Brian Hernandez, and Officer John Baran. Each of the award recipients received medals and certificates from Chief Steve Scheckel and Lieutenant Dan Broelmann.
The Munster Police Department congratulates these officers on receiving these awards and also thanks the Munster Rotary Club for their continued support of our department and several of our policing programs.
We also appreciate the Carmelite Monastery for hosting this year’s luncheon.
