On September 7th, the Munster Police Department and Choice Community Council dedicated this summer’s Community Mural Project at the corner of Ridge & Meadow.
The mural, which was generously designed by talented local artist Carleen O’Connor Rivera, was the result of hard work and dedication by a large number of volunteers who spent many hours at the site throughout the entire summer.
During the ceremony which was attended by Munster Police Chief Steve Scheckel, police officers, and several town officials, each of the volunteers, supporters, and sponsors of the project were recognized with certificates. In addition to the many volunteers who generously assisted with cleaning, priming, base coating, and painting the mural wall, Munster resident Connie Karras was recognized for her hard work and dedication in leading the project on-site throughout the summer.
Terry and Patti Gibbs, the building owners, were also recognized for allowing the mural to be painted on their building and for also actively assisting with its creation. Their kindness and support during this project is very much appreciated.
We would also like to thank LOWE’S HOME IMPROVEMENT in Schererville (who attended the ceremony) for generously donating approximately $1,000 in paint and supplies towards the project.
We also appreciate Munster Public Works for providing the use of their equipment during the summer as we could not have accomplished the project without their assistance. The Munster Fire Department also assisted us at the beginning of the summer with hosing down the mural Project volunteers and supporters at the dedication ceremony on September 7th wall after our volunteers had washed and prepped it for painting and we appreciate their assistance as well.
Top Tier Nutrition, Schoops Hamburgers, Barbership Moffits, and Don Jesus Y Familia also greatly assisted our volunteers by providing water to them as they worked, especially on very hot days.
This project was planned and initiated by the dedicated members of the Choice Community Council of Munster which has been organizing and running safety programs and events (such as the National Night Out) for 30 years.
