On Friday, Dec. 5, the Indiana State Library was presented with the Indiana Outstanding Event or Project Award for implementation of its Indiana Escape Experience kits.
The award, administered by the Indiana Historical Society, recognizes an organization for an exceptional educational event or history project implemented during the past year, either one-time or ongoing, which relates to that organization’s mission. Examples include reenactments, publications, innovative media usage, exceptional teacher training and displays or exhibitions.
"The Indiana State Library is honored to receive the Outstanding Event or Project Award from the Indiana Historical Society. I would like to acknowledge the incredible staff at the State Library who put a lot of time, effort and thought into making the Indiana Escape Experience kits a viable - and fun - primary source-driven option for teaching children about Indiana history in schools and libraries across the state," said Jacob Speer, Indiana State Librarian.
The Indiana Young Readers Center at the Indiana State Library provides five types of kits for use by public library youth librarians and teachers across the state of Indiana: Book Club kits, LEGO kits, DUPLO kits, Storytime kits and Indiana Escape Experience kits. The Escape Experience kits include almost everything a library or school needs to host an escape experience based on Indiana history. The kits feature primary source documents.
