A standing ovation followed The Gordon Lightfoot Tribute at the Center for Visual and Performing Arts in Munster on Friday, June 28, starring Mike Fornes, who took the audience back to the 1960s through the 1980s.
Fornes portrayed the Canadian icon, Gordon Lightfoot, who passed away May 1, 2023 at the age of 84. Fornes played many of Lightfoot’s timeless tunes, such as Carefree Highway, Rainy Day People, If You Could Read My Mind, and the iconic, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Many of the songs were backed by recordings of Lightfoot’s stage band.
A retired radio and television broadcaster for the NHL and MLB, Fornes knew Lightfoot personally and researched his life. He shared many intimate stories behind the songs Lightfoot wrote and performed through the years. Through his stories, Fornes took the audience on a musical tour of the North Country of Canada. The many Gordon Lightfoot fans who attended this concert were not disappointed.
The pre-show dining option was a delicious Beef dinner, which included Yorkshire Pudding and Peach Melba.
