The Munster Police Department held their annual Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) Graduation ceremonies at St. Thomas More School and St. Paul’s Lutheran School on December 7th and 12th, respectively.
During these memorable programs, the fifth grade students were honored for completing the 10-week core curriculum of the D.A.R.E. Program which included topics such as drug prevention, bullying prevention, managing stress, making positive choices, using help networks, choosing positive associations, risks and consequences, and more. The students were also visited by D.A.R.E. Role Models from Munster High School who answered their questions about resisting peer pressure while also providing them with advice for the future.
Each of the graduates were honored with a D.A.R.E. t-shirt, certificate and gift bag and awards were also presented for student who wrote the top D.A.R.E. Essays or for winning the Daren Award for excellent participation in class. Following the ceremonies, the students enjoyed pizza and cupcakes as well as a visit from K-9 Skye (at St. Paul’s) who took photos with them while wearing her very own D.A.R.E. t-shirt.
The Munster Police Department would like to thank this year’s D.A.R.E. Program sponsors for their continued support of this important safety program which provides instruction to approximately 2,000 Munster students each year in grades K-8. The program has continued to run strong now for 35 years (since 1988) thanks to great support from our community.
Congratulations to our D.A.R.E. Graduates and fall semester award winners!
