2024 Summer Camps

The South Bend Civic Theatre’s Summer Camps will give youth from kindergarten through high school the opportunity to experience the magic of creating live theatre. The camps are taught by experienced and enthusiastic instructors who will coach kids on skills including acting, musical theatre, improv, and more. This year we are excited to produce two SummerStage productions: "Journey to Oz" and "Pinocchio"!

Summer Stage 2024

SummerStage SESSION 1, Journey to Oz, June 17 - 28 | 2-12 Grade

A fun reimagining of Frank Baum’s timeless classic, “The Wizard of Oz” created specifically for the South Bend Civic Theatre. Journey with Dorothy as she makes a magical trip through the Land of Oz. Meeting friends and foes, Dorothy must find her way to the wizard and figure out how to get home!

Performances:

  • Friday, June 28 @ 5:00 pm & 7:30 pm
  • Saturday, June 29 @ 10:00 am & 12:30 pm

SummerStage SESSION 2, PINOCCHIO, July 8 - 19 | k-2, 3-12 Grades

THE ADVENTURES OF PINOCCHIO

The beloved tale of Pinocchio follows the adventures of a puppet, carved from a stick of wood by Gepetto, the lonely toymaker. Follow Pinocchio on his journey as he discovers what it takes to become a real boy after many trials and tribulations.

  • July 8-19 9:00am-12:00pm | K-2 Grade  
  • July 8-19 9:00am-3:00pm | 3-12 Grade

Half-day Camps

SESSION 1 | JUNE 10 - JUNE 14

Superhero Academy | K-2nd Grade | June 10-14 | 9:00am-12:00pm

Do you have what it takes to be a hero? Explore all the amazing things you can do with your voice as you become your own superhero, craft a superpower like no other, and defeat the evil villains of your imagination! This high energy creative dramatics camp will teach acting skills through imaginative play. 

Broadway Skills (Musical Theatre Workshop) | 3rd-5th Grade | June 10-14 | 9:00am-12:00pm

Any actor who wants to get serious about musical theatre knows that you want to be a “triple threat”: strong in singing, acting, and dancing. This boot camp will tackle all three areas in a variety of styles, genres, and techniques. By the end of camp, students will learn how to be a confident auditioner in all three areas. 

SESSION 2 | JUNE 17 - JUNE 21

Wizarding Academy | K-2 Grade | June 17-21 | 9:00am-12:00pm

Welcome to the magical world of wizards, witches, and magical creatures! Develop your own magical character, design your companion creature, and experience day-to-day studies to become a full-fledged wizard! This style of camp will engage students in magical role playing to teach the craft of character building and development. 

Wizarding Academy | 3rd-5th Grade | June 17-21 | 9:00am-12:00pm

Welcome to the magical world of wizards, witches, and magical creatures! Develop your own magical character, design your companion creature, and experience day-to-day studies to become a full-fledged wizard! This style of camp will engage students in magical role playing to teach the craft of character building and development. 

Improv Skills | 3rd-6th Grade | June 17-21 | 12:30pm-3:30pm

Students will develop fundamental improv skills through short-form games and exercises. We will build on the foundation of “Yes, and”, focusing on developing essential ingredients in a strong scene: character work, wants and intentions, physicality, status, and emotion. This camp is all about jumping in, playing hard, working together, finding your voice, and having fun along the way!

SESSION 3 | JUNE 24 - JUNE 28

Broadway Skills: (Musical Theatre Workshop) | 6th-12th Grade | June 24-28 9:00am-12:00pm

SESSION 4 | JULY 22 - July 26

Mo Willems | k-2nd Grade | July 22-July 26 | 9:00am-12:00pm

Would YOU let the Pigeon drive the bus? Join us each week as we dive into a new book featuring the beloved literary characters of Mo Willems. In this high energy creative dramatics we will explore the dynamic vocal and physical world of Ducklings, Pigeons, Elephants, Piggies, Monsters, and more! All while building reading comprehension, memorization skills, and stage presence. Students will focus on voice and movement through mask work, imaginative play, and story dramatization. 

WARNING: This class could contain too much laughter!

SESSION 5 | JULY 29 - AUGUST 2

Improv Skills | 5th-8th Grade | July 29-August 2 | 9:00am-12:00pm

This camp is all about jumping in, playing hard, working together, finding your voice, and having fun along the way!
