The nonprofit Far South Community Development Corporation (Far South CDC)—an organization that provides strategic community-building services to residents and businesses across Chicago’s Far South Side neighborhoods and south suburban Cook County—is excited to announce its new Fall Fest on Saturday, October 12 from 1-5 p.m. at POP! Heights Park in Roseland (11227 South Halsted Street, between 112th and 113th streets).

This free all-ages event celebrates the start of fall by inviting Far South Side communities together for an afternoon of carnival games, train rides for kids, face painting and more family activities. For more information and to register for Fall Fest at POP! Heights Park, visit farsouthcdc.org.

Fall Fest will also include a housing trolley tour at 2:30 p.m. for area residents. The tour will feature available properties in the West Pullman Chicago Neighborhood Recovery boundaries, information about the Illinois Solar for All program and savings, and upcoming redevelopment sites including Far South CDC and Habitat for Humanity projects.

Developed by Far South CDC in partnership with Sheldon Heights Church in 2022, POP! Heights was the first new park to open along South Halsted on the Far South Side in more than 50 years. POP! Heights is part of Far South CDC’s bold Bringing Communities Back Initiative to repurpose nearly 1 million square feet of blighted community areas into thriving community anchors that will spur economic growth and repopulate communities on Chicago’s Far South Side that have experienced decades of chronic disinvestment. For more information, visit farsouthcdc.org/bcbi.

Fall Fest at POP! Heights Park is presented by Far South CDC with the support of sponsors and partners including Special Service Area #45, 21st Ward Alderman Ronnie Mosley, Illinois State Senator Emil Jones III and Illinois State Representative Justin Slaughter.

About the POP! program

The Public Outdoor Plaza (POP!) program is part of Mayor Brandon Johnson’s Road to Recovery Plan, and is designed to help community-based organizations revitalize underutilized land along neighborhood retail corridors.
