Returning for the fourth year to lead the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra at the 17th Annual "Hoosier Star!" is Maestro Alastair Willis, Music Director of the South Bend Symphony Orchestra. The September 11 vocal competition begins at 7:00 p.m. (CDT) at the La Porte Civic Auditorium. Doors open at 6:00 PM (CDT).

Grammy- nominated Willis’ previous conducting positions include Illinois Symphony Orchestra (Music Director), the Florida Orchestra (Coffee Concert Conductor), the Seattle Symphony (Assistant Conductor) and Cincinnati Symphony (Assistant Conductor). He is in demand globally as a guest conductor, having appeared with the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra and San Francisco Symphony among others.

“I’m honored to be part of ‘Hoosier Star!’ again, and especially looking forward to far fewer pandemic restrictions this year,” Willis said. “The singers are always fantastic and the LCSO always does a tremendous job in looking after everyone. It’s truly a privilege being involved with this unique tradition.”

Ten finalists: five in the Youth Division (17 and younger) and five in the Adult Division (18 and older) will compete for the title of “Hoosier Star!”. Maestro Willis will work with each singer to prepare for the evening and will lead the orchestra in music ranging from rock to opera. More information about the finalists can be found at www.lcso.net.

"Hoosier Star!” tickets will go on sale July 1, and may be obtained at www.lcso.net, Roxy Music or the Civic Auditorium in La Porte.

Platinum Sponsors for the 17th Annual “Hoosier Star!” are Duneland Media, Horizon Bank, NIPSCO/NiSource and Northwest Health.
