DNR Community and Urban Forestry is now offering Big Tree Tours to the public to showcase state champion and heritage trees around Indiana. This addition to the Big Tree Registry program is a way to celebrate heritage trees, emphasize mature tree protection, and promote age and species diversity in our forest population.

Local historically important trees and state champion trees will be highlighted at each tour. This year’s tour will be in Evansville on August 3rd, 9:00 am - 2:00 pm.

The tour will include a bus tour around the city to see the state and Vanderburgh County champions, followed by a walking tour of the largest urban old-growth forest in the nation, Wesselman Woods. Participants are asked to bring their own lunch and drinks, as we will be eating lunch before our tour of Wesselman Woods.

* Please call our office at 317-234-6741 or email urbanforestry@dnr.IN.gov beforehand if you need any accessibility accommodation.

Registration is limited to 20 people. Those who are interested should sign up here.
