Chesterton Art Center is proud to announce the successful completion of its mural public art project, a collaborative effort showcasing the talents of Chesterton Art Center’s Teen Arts Group (TAG). Every year, TAG executes a special public art project with the goal of providing professional development opportunities and demonstrating the importance of strong community partnerships.
Under the guidance of Education Director, Jillian Bridgeman, and Australian-born, Chicago-based designer and artist Robert Hogan, TAG members underwent every step of the mural painting process: from initial planning and budgeting to learning how to create and refine large-scale work. CAC is proud of the TAG members’ dedication to this public art project.
“This mural holds a lot of significance to all of us” Bridgeman says, ”We wanted to create something that reflects the vibrancy of this organization, and having our TAG artists execute the project makes it even more special. Every time these teen artists pass by the Center, they get to tell others that they had a hand in bringing this mural to life. I hope this will be something that the community gets to enjoy for many years to come.”
CAC’s Teen Arts Group (TAG) is a free monthly program for passionate artists ages 13-18 interested in pursuing professional arts experiences and strengthening their own visual art practices. TAG members will learn from one another and professional artists, explore area and Chicago museums and galleries, and work on individual portfolio development. TAG will also offer access to various community engagement and exhibition opportunities. To join and learn more about TAG, visit www.chestertonart.org/outreach.
“Now our outside is as vibrant as our inside,” says Hannah Hammond-Hagman, Executive Director, “as this project reflects the spirit of creation and celebration and hopefully inspires more public art for our community.”
