Trooper and Two Other People Hit By Car


Lake County-A trooper and two other people were hit this morning while standing outside their vehicles. Preliminary investigation showed at approximately 4:40 a.m., this Wednesday, March 7, 2018, morning, Trooper Nicole Maenza, 24, a 1 ½ year veteran of the Indiana State Police, was on the south bound Cline Avenue to I-80/94 east bound ramp investigating crashes.

One-Stop Disaster Assistance Centers Available To Porter County Flood Victims


Porter County residents affected by severe weather and flooding will have convenient access to assistance, as the State of Indiana opens state assistance centers in Northern Indiana. The one-stop disaster centers will open the week of Monday, March 5.

NIRPC Commission Presents Norman Tufford Award to Barbara Waxman

At its February Executive Board meeting, the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC) proudly presented the Norman E. Tufford Award to Barbara Waxman. Norman Tufford served as the first Executive Director of NIRPC from 1966 to 1985. The award named in his honor recognizes former Commissioners and NIRPC staff who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and service to the region.

Bishop Noll musicians earn ISSMA medals


Musicians from the Bishop Noll band received 14 medals during ISSMA competition Feb. 3 at Munster High School. Students Sarah Chavez, Michael Fugger, Jacqueline Milkowski, Serena Waszkiewicz, Heather Hernandez, Andres Miranda, Carlos Guzman, Javier Miranda, Monica Magallanes, Chris Juarez, Kristopher Rodriguez, Whitney Piggott and Phillip Reyes-Brown competed in the ISSMA state solo and ensemble competition and earned gold, silver and bronze medals for their performances.

Commissioners To Seek Funding For Study of Willowcreek Road Extension To State Road 130


The Porter County Board of Commissioners today approved application for a Local Public Agency Project Coordination Contract through the Indiana Department of Transportation to conduct a study of a possible extension of Willowcreek Road from 700 North to State Road 130. With approximately $240,000 in federal funds available for 2018, the county would be responsible for a 20% match if the application is approved. The Commissioners stated that the match funds are available in currently approved budgets and would not require any additional appropriations.

Attorney General Curtis Hill continues fight against opioid crisis with announcement of addition to his legal team


Attorney General Curtis Hill announced today he has expanded his opioid legal team, which is investigating various options under consideration by the State of Indiana, including litigation. The national law firm Cohen Milstein Sellers and Toll PLLC will bolster the state’s legal analysis and litigation experience in this complex area of opioid accountability, Attorney General Hill said.
