Public hearing regarding proposed intersection improvement at U.S. 24 and C.R. 300 East in Wabash County

03/20/2019 - 18:00
03/20/2019 - 19:30

The purpose of the project is to improve safety at the intersection by eliminating through movements in crossing US 24 at CR 300 East. The proposal proposes to eliminate the left-turning movements from CR 300 East onto US 24 and also eliminate the left turn movements from US 24 onto the county road. The preferred alternative proposes to convert the existing at-grade intersection to Median U-Turn configurations which will eliminate the through and left-turning movements. This alternative will remove the crossover at the existing intersection and the placement of Median U-turns within the median immediately east and west of the intersection with the addition of dedicated U-turn lanes to allow for queuing and deceleration. This type of intersection style only allows movements at the crossing to use companion U-turn locations away from the primary intersection to complete what would ordinarily be a direct left-turn or direct through movement from the CR 300 East onto US 24.

The left turns from US 24 onto CR 300 East will also use the Median U-turn within the provided lanes. All improvements will remain within the existing right-of-way. Please visit the INDOT Median U-Turn page www.in.gov/indot/3392.htm to learn more about this type of intersection improvement treatment.

The maintenance of traffic for the project will utilize signage, barricades, flashing arrow, and channelization drums in each direction during construction, however, no road closures or detours will be necessary. Access to all properties will be maintained during construction.
