Art Barn Workshop - Beginner Oil Painting with Mark VanderVinne

03/29/2019 - 09:00
03/31/2019 - 16:00

This workshop will cover the basics of oil painting by explaining the different materials, what to look for in brushes, mediums, painting surfaces, and the difference between professional and student grade paints. Using demonstrations, lectures, painting from simple still lifes and your own photos, and personalized one-on-one instruction, you will learn how to see like an artist and paint shapes to create the illusion of objects and form. Mark will show you how to work with oils instead of against them, so you will feel more comfortable when approaching your next painting. Students bring their own supplies and sack lunch, materials list will be provided prior to the session.

Bio: Mark Vander Vinne is a Midwestern Tonal & Impressionist Landscape painter best known for his quiet scenes, elegant compositions and subtle color palettes. His award winning paintings have been featured in numerous solo & group exhibitions as well as plein air events and private collections.

Register before March 22

Art Barn School of Art is pleased to announce another season of painting workshops for artists taught by artists of national acclaim. These offerings allow participants to immerse themselves in an intensive work environment with experienced instructors with national and international reputations. Executive Director Amy Davis Navardauskas states "Art Barn is known for hosting high-caliber art education workshops and this year is no exception. Jan Sullivan, Art Barn's founder and visionary, started these workshops many years ago and we plan to continue the tradition." The 2019 series will begin at the end of March and finish in mid-September.

Workshops are offered over several consecutive days and provide artists an opportunity to immerse themselves in the media. "The idea is that participants will learn a new medium or improve upon their existing skill-set," continues Navardauskas. "Workshops will provide something new for Art Barn veterans yet provide a welcoming atmosphere and introduction to what Art Barn is all about for those who are new to the experience."

All Workshops are 9:00 am to 4:00 pm with a lunch break from noon to 1:00 pm. A full lunch is included with the cost of the session, except for the VanderVinne workshop. Workshops are geared for ages 18 and over. All students must register 30 days in advance with payment to secure their participation. Register on-line at www.artbarnschool.org or call (219) 462-9009.
