The Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC) will hold a 30-day public comment period on the Transportation Conformity Determination report for LaPorte County, Amendment #7 to the 2040 Comprehensive Regional Plan Update Companion, and Amendment #20 to the FY 2018-2021 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The comment period will end February 9, 2019.

A Transportation Conformity Determination report is a report that shows that emissions resulting from certain regionally significant transportation projects will not result in significantly poorer air quality.

NIRPC’s 2040 Comprehensive Regional Plan Update Companion is a long-range plan of the land use, transportation, environment, economic development, and stewardship and governance goals and objectives stakeholders in Northwest Indiana would like to see for the region. NIRPC’s long-range plan is periodically updated and guided by federal planning regulations.

NIRPC’s TIP is a short-range financial and spending plan for the utilization of federal transportation funding. These funds can be used for highway, transit, and non-motorized transportation projects. NIRPC’s TIP is periodically updated and includes projects undertaken by municipalities, counties, transit operators, and the State of Indiana. Federal planning regulations guide the preparation and development of TIP documents.

• United States Postal Service: NIRPC, 6100 Southport Road, Portage, IN 46368

It is anticipated that action will be taken at the February 12, 2019 meeting of the Technical Planning Committee, followed by the February 21, 2019 meeting of the NIRPC Commission Executive Board.
