Art Barn School of Art Names New Executive Director

The Art Barn School of Art board of directors is pleased to announce that it has named Amy Davis Navardauskas as executive director. Mrs. Navardauskas is an established artist in Northwest Indiana and previously served on the leadership team of Lubeznik Center for the Arts, in Michigan City, where she served as the marketing director for ten years. Overall, she brings fourteen plus years of marketing and fundraising experience.

ART ON THEMART ANNOUNCES CALL FOR ENTRIES FOR MARCH 2019 PROGRAM

theMART, with the City of Chicago, today announced a call for entries to local, national and international artists for the March 2019 program of Art on theMART, the largest permanent digital art projection in the world. For this call for entry, artists are welcome to submit qualifications via Art on theMART’s website by December 15, 2018 for consideration of inclusion.

THE JOFFREY BALLET ANNOUNCES 2019 WINNERS OF THE WINNING WORKS CHOREOGRAPHIC COMPETITION

The Joffrey Academy of Dance, Official School of The Joffrey Ballet, announces the recipients of the ninth annual Winning Works Choreographic Competition: Tommie-Waheed Evans, Marissa Osato, Xiang Xu and Edgar Zendejas. This announcement follows a national call for ALAANA (African, Latinx, Asian, Arab and Native American) artists to submit applications, which began in June. The choreographers’ world premiere works will be showcased on the members of the Joffrey Studio Company and the Joffrey Academy Trainee Program. Winning Works returns to the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago’s Edlis Neeson Theater (220 E. Chicago Avenue) for three performances, Saturday, March 9 at 2:00 PM and 7:30 PM and Sunday, March 10 at 2:00 PM. Tickets for Winning Works are $25 and now available for purchase at www.joffrey.org/winningworks.

EXPO CHICAGO ANNOUNCES STEPHANIE CRISTELLO AS ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

The International Exposition of Contemporary & Modern Art, today announced that Stephanie Cristello, Editor in Chief of THE SEEN and formerly EXPO CHICAGO’s Director of Programming, will assume the role of EXPO CHICAGO Artistic Director effective immediately. As the exposition enters its eighth edition (September 19 – 22, 2019), Cristello will shape the exposition’s programmatic initiatives, working in collaboration with diverse local, national and international curators, writers, artists and institutions. Cristello will work alongside newly appointed Managing Director – VIP Relations Kathleen Rapp and newly appointed Managing Director – Operations & Exhibitor Relations Jeff Rhodes to continue to bring the highest quality contemporary art, galleries and collectors to the City of Chicago.

Celebrate the Holidays symphony style as the Northwest Indiana Symphony and conductor Kirk Muspratt present their annual “Holiday Pops,” Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 7:30 pm at Monbeck Auditorium at Highland High School AND Friday, December 14, 2018 at 7:30pm at the Auditorium at Valparaiso High School. The concert will feature guest vocalist Jesse Donner, the Northwest Indiana Symphony Chorus, directed by Nancy Menk, Munster High School Chorale and the Northwest Indiana Suzuki School.

South Shore Arts presents Urban Legends A Two-part Exhibit Series Showcases Artists Bringing New Life to Old Places

Urban Legends is a two-part series of exhibits that showcase artists whose work is sparking new life in old places. The exhibits will be presented at the Center for Visual and Performing Arts over a six-month period beginning this fall and in multiple venues in Gary next spring. Lead underwriting for the series has been provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Legacy Foundation and Peoples Bank.

CLEVE CARNEY ART GALLERY AND THE MCANINCH ARTS CENTER AT COLLEGE OF DUPAGE TO HOST HISTORIC FRIDA KAHLO EXHIBITION in JUNE 2020

College of DuPage (COD), in partnership with the McAninch Arts Center (MAC) and Cleve Carney Art Gallery, today expanded upon the plans to host the largest private collection of works by Frida Kahlo at the Cleve Carney Art Gallery and throughout the Glen Ellyn campus in summer 2020. The exhibition, entitled Frida Kahlo – Works from the Dolores Olmedo Collection, will be the most comprehensive presentation of Kahlo’s work displayed in the Chicago area since 1978.
