Cleve Carney Art Gallery Approved for Significant Expansion and Upgrade in Advance of Frida Kahlo Exhibition Opening June 2020

College of DuPage (COD) Board of Trustees unanimously authorized creation of permanent expansion plans for the Cleve Carney Art Gallery, located at the McAninch Arts Center on the COD Glen Ellyn campus, in a board meeting held Thursday, January 17, 2019.

Monday Night Ceramics at the Chesterton Art Center

The Chesterton Art Center will be starting a new session of Monday Night Ceramics on April 1 from 5:30-8:30. During this 5-week class, beginning students will develop fundamental wheel-throwing techniques, while returning students will refine their techniques to create more complex forms.

Friday Morning Watercolor Class at the Chesterton Art Center

Dick Church will be offering a 6-week Beginning/Intermediate Watercolor Class at the Chesterton Art Center starting Friday, April 5 from 10-12. Dick will lead students through a variety of watercolor techniques - a perfect class for the first-time painter or a wonderful refresher for the mildly experienced.

Robyn Feeley will be teaching two sessions of her 4-week Whimsical Pastel Painting Class at the Chesterton Art Center. The first session is for children ages 8-12 and starts Saturday, April 6 from 9-11 a.m. at the Chesterton Art Center. The second session, which is for adults, will begin Wednesday, April 10 from 6:30-8:30. Each session runs for four weeks.

CHICAGO OPERA THEATER AWARDED $30,000 GRANT FROM THE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS

Chicago Opera Theater (COT) today announced that the company has been awarded both a $30,000 Art Works grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and a $15,000 Civic Practice Grant from OPERA America’s Opera Fund for fiscal year 2019.

Expo Chicago Announces Expansion of Curatorial Initiatives in 2019

The International Exposition of Contemporary & Modern Art, announces the expansion of curatorial initiatives taking place during the eighth annual exposition (September 19 – 22, 2019), including the creation of the Red Bull Arts Detroit Global Curatorial Initiative, an expansion of the Curatorial Exchange supported by Red Bull Arts Detroit; and new partnerships and programs surrounding the Curatorial Forum, the exposition’s comprehensive program for mid-career and established curators presented by Independent Curators International (ICI). The exposition’s curatorial developments and commitment to programmatic expansion support its larger mission to increase the international dialogue and curatorial engagement taking place in the Midwest.

“Polaroids by Julie Schwarz” will be on display from Friday, March 15 – Sunday, April 7 at the Marshall J. Gardner Center for the Arts, 540 S. Lake St., Gary, IN. An Opening Reception for the artist will take place Friday, March 15 from 6-9 p.m. Gallery hours are Thursdays and Fridays 12-6 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays 6-9 p.m. and Sundays 1-4 p.m. Exhibit and Opening Reception are both free and open to the public.
