It's the Party of the Year! Hoosier STAR 2017: Hoosier STAR prepares to wow another audience with this year's vocal competition

09/09/2017 - 19:00
09/10/2017 - 00:00

Audience members arrive early every year to enjoy the several food vendors and drinks with family and friends of all ages before settling in to one of the hottest vocal competitions in the area, and a one-of-a-kind fundraising effort! Five youth and five adult competitors will sing songs in the style of artists ranging anywhere from Adele to Sinatra for the chance to be crowned the next Hoosier STAR and win cash prizes up to $1000. With tickets to the event costing $15 for adults and only $5 for children under 12, this is a party anyone can attend! This year, an after-party will also take place downstairs at the venue where audience members can meet-and-greet with finalists and continue the fun until midnight.

Hoosier STAR has grown bigger and better every year because of the unique eclectic music played by the orchestra and the opportunity for amateur vocalists not classically trained to sing with a full symphony! "It's not everyday you hear a symphony play artists like Queen or Adele! For the vocalists, there is nothing like the energy of being backed by a full symphony while singing a favorite tune," LCSO executive director and previous Hoosier STAR winner. Hoosier STAR Chair, Cherri Blair-Drayton added, "It's amazing for the audience as well. You get drawn in to the energy of the finalists, and especially the kids in the audience...they love it!" Audience members of all ages revel in the power of their votes, as every audience member, regardless of age, casts their decision for each of the divisions!

This year our finalists range in ages from eight years old to over 40! Cities represented by their own home town STARS include La Porte, Michigan City, Westville, Elkhart, South Bend, and Berrien Springs Michigan! During the last round of voting, last year's winners, Maddi Reese Ames (youth) and James Neary (adult) are brought back to the Hoosier STAR stage to sing their winning songs, Tomorrow from Annie and Queen's Somebody to Love...only this time without the pressure of competition! Bring the family for an evening you will not soon forget, and one you will return again for next year no doubt!
