CHICAGO ARTISTS COALITION’S NEW MICROGRANT PROGRAM PROVIDES UNRESTRICTED AWARDS TO CHICAGO’S EMERGING ARTISTS

On April 17, 2019, Chicago Artists Coalition (CAC) will unveil the awardees for the SPARK Microgrant: a new, unrestricted award opportunity for emerging Chicago-based visual artists who identify as ALAANA (African, Latinx, Asian, Arab, Native American), an artist with acute financial need, an artist with a disability, or as a self-taught/non-formally trained artist who does not hold a degree from an art program but has made their art practice a primary vocation.

Folks Operetta Presents The Jazz Operettas of Paul Ábrahám in “Goodbye Berlin, Aloha Hawaii!”

Ábrahám’s unique blend of European waltzes and American jazz idioms changed the course of operetta and will present audiences with a musical experience like none other.

Hindman LLC today announced an expansion to the auction house’s growing team, including the appointment of finance industry veteran Joan Wagner as Vice President for its Midwest region and two new additions to the fine art department. Joe Stanfield has been appointed Director of Fine Art and will be based in the Chicago headquarters. Monica Brown will join the Denver location as Senior Specialist for Prints and Multiples. This growth follows Hindman’s previously announced acquisition of Leslie Hindman Auctioneers (est.1982) and Cowan’s Auctions (est.1995), which together operate more salerooms than any other auction house in the country.

Beginning Jewelry Stringing Class at the Chesterton Art Center

Caroline Hatch will be teaching (2) sessions of a Beginning Stringing class at the Chesterton Art Center during the month of April. The first session will be held on Thursday, April 11 from 12-2, and the second session will be Thursday, April 18 from 6:30-8:30. Caroline will walk students through the basics of stringing jewelry and each student will have the opportunity to create a necklace and bracelet.

Monday Night Ceramics at the Chesterton Art Center

The Chesterton Art Center will be starting a new session of Monday Night Ceramics on April 1 from 5:30-8:30. During this 5-week class, beginning students will develop fundamental wheel-throwing techniques, while returning students will refine their techniques to create more complex forms.

Friday Morning Watercolor Class at the Chesterton Art Center

Dick Church will be offering a 6-week Beginning/Intermediate Watercolor Class at the Chesterton Art Center starting Friday, April 5 from 10-12. Dick will lead students through a variety of watercolor techniques - a perfect class for the first-time painter or a wonderful refresher for the mildly experienced.
