Navy Pier will host a free public ceremony for the grand opening of Prismatica on Friday, Feb. 16 at 5:30 p.m. Guests are invited to count down to the lighting of the installation in Polk Bros Park at Navy Pier, 600 East Grand Avenue. Hot chocolate will be available to attendees on a first-come, first-served basis. Following the opening ceremony, the installation will be on display and open to public interaction every day during standard Navy Pier operating hours through April 15.

Because of a Department Of Natural Resources release of water from a dam in Starke County, a possible surge of water may be imminent along the Kankakee. We are advising residents along the Kankakee to closely monitor water levels and exercise all possible caution. We are also asking residents to avoid travel in this area and be aware that all county road bridges across the Kankakee may be closed depending on water levels. The Porter County Sheriff’s Department is in the area monitoring the situation.

Composed by Tyshawn Sorey with lyrics by Terrance Hayes, the Chicago-premiere event will star celebrated tenor Lawrence Brownlee in a solo recital with pianist Myra Huang on Thursday, February 22 at 7pm at the DuSable Museum of African American History. Cycles of My Being is a co-commission with Opera Philadelphia, and Carnegie Hall.

Twenty-one Chicago high school students will once again compete in the finals of the August Wilson Monologue Competition for a chance to represent Chicago in the National Competition at the August Wilson Theatre in New York City. Hundreds of students competed across the city in preliminary rounds. The finals will be held at the Broadway Playhouse, 175 E Chestnut on February 26, 2018 at 6:00pm. The August Wilson Monologue Competition is free and open to the public. McArthur will present two shows at the Pride Arts Center - SONDHEIM’S DIVAS on Sunday, March 11 and MOUNTAINS – A MUSICAL ADVENTURE on March 12. Both performances will be in The Broadway, at 4139 N. Broadway, Chicago. Tickets are $20-$25 for each show and will be on sale soon at www.pridefilmsandplays.com.
