This holiday season, the “A Christmas Story” Comes Home exhibit, presented in collaboration with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, will be on display until Jan. 7th at the Indiana Welcome Center in Hammond. The exhibit takes visitors to the streets of downtown Hohman, a fictional Indiana town which was a disguise for author, Jean Shepherd’s, hometown Hammond.

Bolt for the Heart (BFTH) is again teaming up with the Indiana State Police to promote and participate in the 5K Run/Walk to raise money to equip ISP patrol cars with lifesaving AED’s. The event raised enough money to purchase over 200 AED’s which were placed in ISP cars that patrol Indiana’s more rural counties. This year BFTH plans to raise enough money to supply another 250 AED’s for the Indiana State Police patrol units.

The Indiana Department of Transportation reminds Hoosiers to travel safely and plan more driving time during the busy Thanksgiving travel holiday. AAA projects 50.9 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more away from home this Thanksgiving from November 22 through November 26, a 3.3 percent increase over last year. Hoosier Helpers sponsored by State Farm will patrol urban interstates in Indianapolis, Northwest Indiana and Southern Indiana near Louisville during heavy travel periods this holiday.

People who own a lamp that family and friends found to be hideous have entered them into the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority’s Ugly Lamp Contest for a chance to win an iconic leg lamp just like Mr. Parker’s “Major Award” from the holiday movie classic, A Christmas Story.

Visitors may vote on the ugliest lamp from two categories: "Born Ugly" and "Made Ugly." Voting will run until Dec. 15. All entries will be displayed through Jan. 7, 2018.

Toy and model train collectors and enthusiasts will enjoy a two-day train show at the Lake County Fairgrounds on Saturday, Nov. 25 and Sunday, Nov. 26. The show will be open to the public from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25, and from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 26. Cost to attend the show is $5 per person, and free for those under 18.

Nov. 25-26 are free youth hunting days in Indiana. Indiana residents age 17 or younger can take any legal game in season on those days without a hunting license but must follow all other hunting regulations. To participate, the youth must be accompanied by an adult age 18 or older. The adult must possess a valid hunting license, unless exempted from needing a license.

In advance of his Sunday, Nov. 26 4 p.m. performance of “All Funk’d Up!” at the MAC, legendary tap dance artist and Tony Award-winning choreographer Savion Glover, will conduct a master class Sunday, Nov. 26 at 12 noon at the COD Dance Studio located in the PE Building. This 90-minute master class allows dancers to learn the technique and styles as performed by Glover. Admission is free but capacity is limited and advance registration is required. The featured acts will include standup comedy by Jake Dewar, a clown act by Lyla Whedbee and music from hip-hop artist Marcus Garlington.
