Hoosier STAR is more than a vocal competition, it is a highly anticipated social event! In March, LCSO entertained hundreds of casting auditions from finalists throughout Indiana and Southwest Michigan! Now, on September 9, 2017 LCSO will present it's twelfth annual Hoosier STAR, their season kick-off Gala event at the La Porte Civic Auditorium on 1010 Ridge St. in La Porte. On that Saturday evening, the doors will open at 6pm and the party of the year will begin!

East Chicago will celebrate Mexican Independence Day with a Parade and Festival on Sept 10. The parade kicks off at noon. A celebration and festival will start at 2:00 p.m. at Jeorse Park in East Chicago and festivities will continue until midnight.

For the past two years, Lyric Unlimited’s groundbreaking Chicago Voices initiative has cast a spotlight on the unique vocal past and present of our vibrant city. Through the Community Created Performances program, groups of Chicagoans were encouraged to share the untold stories of their community through song. After a competitive application process followed by more than 10,000 online public votes, three finalist groups won the opportunity to bring their stories to life through an original music theater work: Blu Rhythm Collective, Kuumba Lynx, and YOLO Boomers.
