Kohl Children’s Museum of Greater Chicago celebrates the return of the popular temporary exhibit “Build It!,” a larger than life collection of building blocks that allow children to explore their creativity while learning about architecture, science, and storytelling. Thanks to generous support from Wintrust, “Build It!” returns on September 27 at Kohl Children’s Museum.

The Chicago International Film Festival today announced the 16 films selected for the International Competition category, a selection of outstanding films competing for the Festival’s top honor, the Gold Hugo. Eleven of the 16 films in this year’s International Competition are made by Festival alumni returning with their latest masterpieces, including previous Gold Hugo winners (Joanna Kos-Krause and Aki Kaurismäki) and Silver Hugo winners (Mohammad Rasoulof and Diego Lerman).

The 53rd Chicago International Film Festival, presented by Cinema/Chicago, announced today that film and theater legend Sir Patrick Stewart will be honored with the Gold Hugo Career Achievement Award.

The Terra Foundation for American Art, Chicago Humanities Festival, EXPO CHICAGO, and Navy Pier today announced a partnership to produce and present “Creative Chicago: An Interview Marathon,” featuring one of the world’s leading curators, critics, and art historians, Hans Ulrich Obrist, artistic director of London’s Serpentine Galleries. The four-hour interview marathon will be presented in partnership with Navy Pier, Chicago’s mission-driven cultural district, in the Aon Grand Ballroom on Saturday, September 29, 2018, during EXPO CHICAGO 2018 (September 26–30), as part of the Terra Foundation for American Art’s Art Design Chicago initiative.

The Chicago International Film Festival today announced the films and programs selected for its Spotlight: Architecture program, including three world premieres. In conjunction with the Chicago Architecture Biennial (CAB), the Spotlight: Architecture program will also present free public programming at various partner institutions in Chicago throughout the Biennial (September - December 2017). This marks the second collaboration between the Festival and CAB.

Dan Novak, director of The Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center, the professional artist development program at Lyric Opera of Chicago, is pleased to announce that soprano Emily Pogorelc, mezzo-soprano Kayleigh Decker, tenor Eric Ferring, baritones Christopher Kenney and Ricardo José Rivera, and bass-baritone David Weigel, have been accepted into this prestigious program for its 2018/19 Ensemble.
